Sydney’s Story

Writer and Educator Sydney Solis’s wide range of life and professional experiences led her to become an English and Life Coach. She has been teaching for decades, everyone from adult literacy in Bakersfield, California, to homeschooling her two now-adult children while traveling the world, to English as a Second Language to elementary and high school students to Taiwanese and Japanese business professionals.

She is a native of Boulder, Colorado USA and was born into a multicultural family. Her father was Dutch and was born in the Dutch East Indies. She grew up eating Indonesian food and learning Eastern Philosophy. Her mother’s side of the family came from the Bohemia/Moravia area of the now Czech Republic.

She has a degree in Journalism with a minor in Spanish as well as a Certificate in Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages. She has worked abroad as a journalist and award-winning photographer in Mexico, Ecuador and Japan, and lived in Spain, Argentina, Uruguay and The Caribbean. She has appeared on PBS, NHK in Japan, in Yoga Journal magazine, the Yoga Journal Conference, and has taught at Kripalu and The Omega Institute. and at Lighthouse Writers Workshops in Denver. She is an award-winning haiku and haibun poet.

She has taught yoga and meditation for more than two decades and has more than 500 hours of training in yoga and yoga therapy. Her award-winning program Storytime Yoga teaches literacy, peace and health to children through story and yoga. Sydney created the first children’s yoga online training program in the world, training librarians, teachers, parents and therapists in the healing power of yoga and story.

She currently is enrolled in the Soul-Centered Psychology Coaching course.

Sydney is also an award-winning performance poet, Haiku poet, author, storyteller, and visual artist.
